Phil Akashi

Phil Akashi is a Belgian-born Hong Kong based artist. He reinvents the traditional use of Asian seals working in a broad range of media. His arts practice involves using the power of language with a trans-cultural and conceptual approach to question the contemporary world around him.

This is the first chapter of a Street Art project called ‘Legend of the Dragon’ that will be completed in several Asian cities during 2015. In this project, Akashi represents the dragon as a spiritual symbol of the Chinese unity and pride for the country. The artwork is composed of traditional seals imprints with Chinese characters ‘descendants of the dragon’. This artwork is the first Street Art piece of a series of 9. It has been created the 9th of March 2015 at Deepwater Bay Beach in Hong Kong. The number 9 is considered lucky in Chinese culture. This is also reflected in the depiction of the Chinese Dragon, composed of 9 different animal resemblances. Learn more about the series here
