Ibiza Graffiti

Five young art students from Ibiza have been fined €2400 each for painting on walls in San Antonio. The incident took place in March 2007 when the lads had had a few beers and decided to decorate the walls which unfortunately were private property. It's a thorny old problem whether Graffiti should be regarded as street art or vandalism. Here are some examples taken from Ibiza's facades – you decide!

Brooklyn’s losing battles in the war vs. graffiti taggers

The most graffiti-scarred building in the city is in the heart of Bushwick — and it’s a public school. Graffiti vandals hit Intermediate School 349 on Starr St. 20 times last year, NYPD statistics show. “You can’t turn a corner without seeing graffiti around here. The city cleans it up and the kids just come and do the same thing all over again,” complained Patricia Bradford, who lives nearby.

Vandal escapes prison after 10-month graffiti campaign on railways

A graffiti vandal who defaced trains, trams and railway buildings in south London and Surrey was today given an eight-month suspended prison sentence and an Asbo to prevent him carrying spray cans. Unemployed Sean Kinsella, 22, inflicted £17,000 damage in a 10-month spray paint campaign between May 2007 and last March. He was targeted by British Transport Police in an operation over Christmas when the rail network is closed down.

‘YARNBOMBING’ IS THE NEW GRAFFITI

KNITTING has traditionally been an indoor pursuit but now scores of women have covered lampposts, trees and even buses with colourful swathes of wool. The practice, known as ‘yarnbombing’, originated in America but has now reached Britain. Just like graffiti artists, the knitters often pick a target and transform it during the night.

Rocker Jamie Hince has splashed out thousands on a string of gifts for his girlfriend Kate Moss’ birthday and that includes a special gift - 30,000-pound graffiti.According to thesun.co.uk, Hince has commissioned two works by Parisian artist Andre aka Monsieur A. The artiste, who owns two Paris nightclubs, is set to fly to the Britain in the next two weeks to work on the piece in Moss’ house.
